Hyde Park Celebrates Restoration of Historical Clock at original FDR High School now Haviland Middle School.

HYDE PARK, NY - The Hyde Park Education Foundation will celebrate the completed restoration and repair of the clock in the bell tower at the original Franklin D. Roosevelt High School on Thursday May 1, 2003 at 11:00AM. The beautiful clock fell into disrepair a number of years ago and has been restored to its original splendor by several members of Chapter 84 of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. The clock repair experts volunteered their time to rebuild the entire clock workings, repaint the original glass dial and design more energy efficient lighting. Association Member Ed Thompson says " We are doing this as a public service to the community to enjoy for many years to come, and we are having fun doing it."

The Hyde Park Education Foundation was formed two years ago to raise awareness and funds for the restoration and preservation of three historic school buildings in Hyde Park - Haviland Middle School Violet Avenue School and Hyde Park Elementary. These beautiful landmarks were constructed during the 1940's as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's public works administration program and are in active use by part of the district's 4,600 students. The Foundation is committed to preserving these historical landmarks as well as insuring that Hyde Park children have the opportunity to attend neighborhood schools.
